Can Laser Hair Removal cause hair to regrow faster?

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

Are you debating electrolysis vs laser hair removal treatments to remove unwanted hair from your body?

Electrolysis has many benefits which we’ve discussed before, such as the ability to choose the intensity level of treatments based on your personal pain tolerance. But now, recent studies have revealed a surprising side effect of laser  – it might stimulate hair growth in some cases.

Researchers have discovered a phenomenon, known as paradoxical hypertrichosis, where clients see an increase of hair in areas treated with laser!

How does this happen? One theory suggests that the laser energy delivered during treatment could activate dormant hair follicles, prompting them to enter a growth phase. Another possibility is that the body's response to the laser-induced damage may end up stimulating the production of new hair follicles as part of the healing process.

With Electrolysis, a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle which creates a heat sensation at the base of the follicle. This heat sensation cuts off the blood supply to the hair, so there is no extra energy or damage for the body to rebel against.

Laser Hair removal also offers “long-term reduction” rather than permanent removal, so it has more of a focus on lessening hair growth over time. This can be disappointing if you are expecting it to be gone for good.

However, electrolysis is an approved permanent hair removal method, so once the hair follicle is treated, no new growth can occur!

Book your consultation now to experience electrolysis for yourself.
